SHOAL
2012
Stones, wire (steel and copper)
approx. 5 x 3 x 1.5 metres
Shoal, commissioned by Artlink for an anniversary, is a work made of stones donated by visitors and friends of the gallery. The stones float about four inches above the ground. The curling shape is inspired by the airflow into the gallery when people open the wide door and enter the space (see here). The resulting form resembles that of Spurn peninsula.
The stones represent the donors. Like the members of a society form groups and gather as family, friends or fiends the stones are assembled by form, shape and character.
Shoal has been shown in conjunction with Seascape [Fr-Agile], another piece related to Spurn.
